our story

Tapco Farm is a multi-generational effort to bring a storied stretch of the Verde Valley back to life. Once part of the region's mining and power history, this land is being carefully restored, clearing what can't be re-used, healing the soil, and planting crops and wine grapes rooted in this place. We're in no hurry. Good land, and good wine, are made over decades, not seasons. What we build here, we build to last.

The name is drawn from the site's own history. The Arizona Power Company (TAPCo) was a steam generating oil-fired power plant that helped build the Verde Valley, and we've chosen to honor that past rather than erase it. We think the history is a feature, not a bug.

Our focus is crops for local consumption, especially at local restaruants and wine grapes suited to the Verde Valley's soils and climate. Vineyards take patience and the first meaningful harvests are years out so we're planting and building with the long view in mind.

Not yet. We're early in a long restoration, and the land isn't ready for visitors. As the project matures, we hope to open it up in thoughtful ways. Follow along on Instagram and YouTube, and we'll share when there's more to see.

We are doing our due diligence and ensuring the land is safe to farm. Specifically, we have an ongoing EPA Environmental Site Assessment. We've completed Phase 1 and are within Phase 2. Initial soil and water tests show no contamination from past activity but the EPA study will provide more confidence.

The simplest way today is to follow our journey on Instagram and YouTube and comment if you'd like and to grab a tote. It genuinely helps. More ways to get involved will come as the farm grows. We hope for volunteer opportunities in the future too.
